Harris County Communities Meeting, Inc. (HCCM) is a nonprofit organization committed to empowering communities through civic engagement, policy advocacy, and access to resources. We work closely with elected officials, community leaders, and institutions to bridge gaps and uplift underserved communities across Harris County.
Position Summary:
HCCM is seeking a skilled and passionate Grant Writer to join our team on a part-time contract basis. The Grant Writer will be responsible for researching funding opportunities, writing compelling grant proposals, and managing the grant application process from start to finish. The ideal candidate is an excellent communicator, highly organized, and deeply committed to advancing community-driven initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Research and identify local, state, federal, and private funding opportunities aligned with HCCM’s mission.
Write and edit persuasive grant proposals, letters of intent (LOIs), and grant reports.
Collaborate with HCCM leadership to align funding strategies with program goals and organizational priorities.
Prepare supporting documents including cover letters, budget narratives, and organizational profiles.
Develop and maintain a grant tracking system to monitor deadlines, submissions, and reporting requirements.
Assist in creating boilerplate templates and language for commonly used grant components.
Work with program staff to collect program data, success stories, and evaluation metrics.
Coordinate with finance personnel to ensure accurate and compelling budget documentation.
Build and maintain relationships with funders, including foundations, government agencies, and corporate sponsors.
Stay informed on funding trends and philanthropic interests related to civic engagement, policy advocacy, and nonprofit sustainability.
Participate in regular check-ins with HCCM staff to provide updates and identify new opportunities.
Qualifications:
Proven experience writing successful grant proposals for nonprofit organizations.
Strong research, writing, and organizational skills.
Knowledge of community development, social justice, or public policy sectors preferred.
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
Familiarity with grant databases and funding portals a plus.
Compensation:
Competitive per-project fee, based on experience.
