The Community Service Officer’s (CSO) primary responsibility is to ensure that drivers comply with Fort Lewis College’s parking regulations and issue citations for violations. Under general supervision, patrols campus to ensure compliance with FLC’s parking regulations, aids motorists with tasks such as jump-starting vehicles, transports department documents, and collects parking meter and parking kiosk revenue. The CSO will also repair and troubleshoot parking meters and parking permit machines. The CSO will support the police department by assisting stranded motorists, assisting with road closures, and other duties as assigned to assist the Fort Lewis College Police & Parking Services Department. Essential Functions and Responsibilities include patrolling campus parking areas and roads on foot and in a vehicle enforcing parking regulations; issuing parking violations; looking out for lost, stolen, or counterfeit parking permits; supporting special parking arrangements for events; utilizing computer and hand-held devices to issue citations and take pictures; driving a parking vehicle; performing maintenance on parking meters and kiosks; providing transport for department documents; collecting revenue; attaching and removing vehicle immobilization devices; placing hoods on parking meters for reserved parking; assisting police officers in traffic control and road closures; and performing other duties as assigned. Required qualifications include a valid Colorado Driver’s License, meeting FLC’s Safety Driving Standard, a High School diploma or GED, ability to comprehend technical aspects of electronic data terminals and ticket writers, strong time management skills, ability to work alone and self-motivated, experience managing stressful situations, passing a background check, and completing CJIS Security Awareness Training levels 1, 2, & 4. The position reports to the Fort Lewis College senior police officer or Chief of Police and has no supervisory responsibilities. The work environment includes working in confined areas, sitting at a computer for extended periods, working in extreme weather conditions with some loud noise, and physical demands such as standing, sitting, talking, hearing, using hands and fingers, reaching, stooping, kneeling, light to heavy lifting, and walking and standing for extensive periods. Travel is not expected. The position is full-time, exempt from state Classified System, permanent, with typical work hours Monday through Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm and weekends/evenings as needed for special events.
